Betting involves real risk of loss, including the loss of money needed for other purposes and the harm that follows from it. A positive expected value does not guarantee a profit for any individual bettor over any particular period; a measured edge is an estimate, and estimates can be wrong. The rules that determine how a market settles — settlement periods, void conditions, dead-heat rules and limits — are written by each operator and can change, so they must be read on the account you use.

§04Gambling harm and where to get help
Gambling can cause serious harm: debt, the loss of money needed for rent, food or family, damage to relationships and to mental health, and in the worst cases the loss of employment or a home. These harms fall on the people around a bettor as well as on the bettor.
Warning signs worth taking seriously include betting more than you intended, betting to recover losses, borrowing or selling things to fund betting, hiding betting from people close to you, and feeling unable to stop. None of these are moral failures and all of them are better addressed early.
Free and confidential support exists in most countries through national gambling-harm helplines and services, for bettors and for their families. Practical steps that require no one else's permission include using the deposit limits, time limits and self-exclusion tools every licensed operator provides, and removing stored payment details from betting accounts.
